anti-government claims. witnesses who encountered the suspect provided possible clues into what motivated the attack. >> the shooter was just calmly walking down the corridor, he had his gun and looked at me and said tsa? and i just shook my head, and he kept going. >> reporter: after the shooting the fbi served search warrants at the suspect's homes in l.a. and new jersey. law enforcement officials say ciancia, originally from pennsville township, new jersey sent text messages to family members there prior to the shooting. >> the text message was just a message to the little brother and the way it was written, they had some concern about it and that's when the brought to our attention. >> reporter: a neighbor of ciancia's in california says he can't believe ciancia could be the shooter. >> from knowing this guy i can't believe that.it just doesn't make sense. >> reporter: pennsville police say ciancia had no history of violence or record of mental illness. ciancia - who was shot in the chest - remains hospitalized. cnn affiliate kcal/kcbs shot this exclusive video showing what appears to be the suspect handcuffed to a gurney arriving at ucla medical center. i'm scott thompson reporting. >> terminal 3 is now fully operperational. over eight hundred departing and seven hundred arriving flights were impacted by the shooting. today t-s-a workers are honoring the memory of that victim. officials have identified him as t-s-a officer gerardo hernandez. officials say hernandez who would have turned 40 next week -- is the first t-s-a employee to be killed in the line of duty. today, his widow spoke out about her loss.

senior care facility was ordered to close. >> we are not able to serve medication there are only three of us. are >> claunesha says managers didn't seem to care that there wasn't enough food to feed their clients. >> we are just working with what we have. >> reporter: without much support, there was a lot of work to be done. for her dedication, much. just the minimum wage. eight dollars an hour. even without getting paid, claunesha was compelled to care for someone else's family of her own. >> the family's asked me to go to the store and even purchase and diapers. >> reporter: valley spring manor staff say they did everything they could. now it's time for the owners to be punished, for not doing enough. reporting in san leandro, dan rubin, kron four news.

daylight-saving time ends carl azuz shines a little light on standard time - and how it's not exactly the standard. daylight saving time sounds just saving time. you're saving daylight time. out of some folks why we time. that's what it's called: standard time. we spend 8 months out of the time... still called standard. it's been shrinking since world war one. that's when daylight-saving time was first implemented to save energy. the switch made the sunset time, later in the day... turn their lights on as early. but what about winter, and the fall back to standard? well, look at it this way. most parts of the u.s. only get about 9 and a half hours of daylight in winter- time. that's not much! if we didn't set our clocks back in the fall, sunrise wouldn't be until 8:30am in many places-- you'd be starting and ending your day in the dark. falling back to standard little closer to what we're used to; it helps us start our day in the light. plus, there's that whole extra-hour-of-sleep thing, assuming you go to bed on time when we fall back. so less daylight, but more

(male announcer) this is the bay area news station. kron 4 news starts now. >> the female panda has been learning survival skills since her birth. to minimize human interaction researchers wore panda costumes. the panda will be released into a chinese nature reserve next wednesday. coming up at 8:30. a mother hospitalized after eating her daughters halloween candy. what police found inside. and what parents need to watch out for. plus. a northern california rapist about to be released. now that's in jeopardy. we share who's change of heart could change the fate of the convict. back to our top developing story. the los angeles international airport is now a crime scene. a day after a gunman opened fire, killing a t-s-a officer and injuring two others. tonight investigators are trying to piece together what happened inside terminal three. dan simon breaks down how it all started. >> "it's going to be a major, major, incident." >> reporter: los angeles international airport, 9:20 am local time. the f-b-i says 23-year old paul anthony ciancia enters terminal 3, pulls a rifle from a bag and opens fire. >> "he proceeded into the screening area where tsa screeners are and continued shooting and went past the screeners back into the airport itself." are >>

>> reporter: at the security checkpoint, tsa officers, who are not armed, are shot. one - 39 year old gerardohe is the first t-s-a officer to die in the line of duty since the agency was established in 2001. authorities say after shooting his way through this security checkpoint, ciancia manages to make it all the way down this hallway. they say he is stopped by authorities in the food court area. hundreds run for their lives. >> "it was a complete panic. people were screaming and i saw children crying." >> "pure and utter mayhem. people were tripping over each other on the floor, bags everywhere. crying. screaming." >> flying down the hallway and they were just jumping over chairs, jumping over people. hiding, and we were kind of trapped at the end of the terminal." >> reporter: trapped, with no where else to escape, some passengers run onto the airport tarmac. others use anything they can to protect themselves. >> "the first shot just kind

of caught us off guard. second shot went in and i grabbed luggage and started making walls and walls out of luggage, and i could see the guy as he's walking towards the escalator and he's just pointing down past us." >> reporter: after making it hundreds of feet into the terminal the gunman is shot by police, multiple times in the chest, and lives. though the motive is still unclear. a federal law enforcement official says investigators found information on the suspect expressing anti-federal government sentiment -- and also anger at the t-s-a specifically. is clear -- the gunman was intent on causing much more destruction. authorities say he had additional ammunition. >> "there were more than 100 more rounds that could have literally killed everybody in that terminal." >> tsa is now reviewing it's policy on officer safety. tsa administrators say the agency's officers are the first line of defense in airport security and the agency will do everything possible to make sure that

friday's tragedy will never be repeated. there was no mention if this means that officers will be armed in the future. >> the release of a serial rapist will likely be delayed. this comes after a landlord decided against supporting the man's move to northern los angeles county. hubbart was committed to a state mental hospital nearly two decades ago. known as the pillow case rapist, he's admitted tohis attacks took place in l-a county from 1971 to 19-72. and in the south bay from 19-80 to 19-82. and an attack outside a san jose middle ll still be released, but not before a state contractor searches for a different location. >> the family of 13-year-old andy lopez plans to file a civil rights lawsuit monday against sonoma county. lopez is the 13-year-old shot and killed by a deputy.who spotted him carrying an assault rifle, which turned out to be a replica. the family claims that deputy erick gelhaus shot
